Home Design Trends to Watch for 2019

With 2019 right around the corner, it's a great opportunity to search for home design trends for inspiration. A few tweaks can give a room an entirely different look and refresh your home. For those browsing DFW new homes, you can take these ideas to your home builder. They usually have designers on staff who can help you turn your visions for each room into reality. Here are the five home design trends you can expect in the upcoming months.
  1. Colors of the year
If you browse the colors of the years from the major brands, you'll discover a common theme. The colors resemble a variety of earth tones and terracotta. PANTONE Color of the Year is PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral. "In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy," PANTONE says. Sherwin-Williams' 2019 Color of the Year is Cavern Clay, which contains less pink hue than PANTONE's. The company says the color "embodies renewal, simplicity and free-spirited bohemian flair." The choice doesn't surprise with Bohemian style appearing on this list as No. 3.
  1. Simple, multipurpose furnishings
Big, overstuffed sofas and chairs are out and compact is in. It's incredible how swapping bulkier items for those with simple ones reminiscent of Scandinavian design. The swap can change up a room from feeling crowded to more open and relaxing. Smarter design also optimizes the use of the furnishings such table with built-in shelves and a footrest that can store items or someone can use it for a chair. Multifunctional furnishings allow you to change up your space for different events and purposes without bringing in new items.
  1. Bohemian style
Anyone who keeps up with design trends knows boho chic has been making a comeback as it's a home design trend from this year that will carry over to the New Year. What does Bohemian style mean? Initially, Bohemian referred to the people from Central Europe in Bohemia. Their lives were unconventional and they didn't follow societal standards when it came to their lifestyles, clothing, and homes. Bohemians often traveled, so they were ready to grab whatever they could take with them. Therefore, their homes filled with random objects that didn't always match. Boho mixes contrasting colors and styles with lots of textiles.
  1. Add Flair to Ceilings
This one appears in 5 Home Design Trends to Turn Your Master Suite into a Retreat and now applies to other rooms in the home. You get to trends in one move by hanging textiles from the ceiling, a Boho chic move. If material elements aren't your thing, you can always paint the ceiling a different color or switch out the lighting to something bigger and bolder. With the right accents, a room can look larger and lighter or more subdued depending on the look you want.
  1. Geometric patterns
The nice thing about geometrical patterns is they last for years to come. You can enhance a space with patterns through curtains, furniture, and accents. Curved or triangular coffee tables add character to a living room. Geometric patterns can work well with the other four trends. The home design trends for fall still apply as most of the tips mesh with these. You don't have to do a complete room makeover to give your space a new, fresh feel. An accent or two, one new furniture item, or paint can revitalize any space to make it feel new. You can request these design ideas in DFW new homes from Sandlin Homes.
