Don't Let Your Lawn Get Toasted!
It is summer in Texas, no rain in the forecast and the 100 degree days aren't ready to end, but that doesn't mean your lawn can't still look great.
Here are a few tips to help your lawn thrive during times of high heat and drought.
WATERING TIPS
- Water Early: Run your sprinklers between 5:00am and 9:00am to ensure the water doesn't evaporate in the hot sun.
- Water Deep: Give your lawn 1.5 to 2 inches of water each week.
- Water Less Often: Soaking the soil 2-3 times a week will help the roots grow deep, away from the surface where they can dry out more easily.
MOWING TIPS
- Mow Higher: Taller grass gives shade to the soil and helps keep the roots cool.
- The 1/3 Rule: Never cut more than a third of the grass blade length at a time. This helps keep your grass from burning in the sun.
- Best Time: Mow early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid stressing your grass during the heat of the day.
- Sharpen Blades: Make clean cuts. Dull blades rip the blades of grass causing water loss fast.
- Leave the Clippings: Leaving clippings puts moisture and nutrients back into the soil, resulting in a denser, healthier lawn.
