Sandlin Custom Homes
Five Decades Strong... and Growing
ByBeverlySmirnis
"Proven
Quality.. ...Solid Value..... Since 1957"
As
Sandlin Custom Homes nears the half-century mark in the local
homebuilding industry, the Sandlins are witness to many changes.
The 1964 Parade
of Homes magazine, presented by the Home Builders Association
of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, showcases a cutting edge design
for the time—a single level, three-bedroom, 2-bath house, built
by J.B.
Sandlin Homes. Some of the upgrades listed as features in the
homes
entered by the participating builders that year included "air
conditioning, complete insulation packages, pure vinyl flooring,
Formica countertops, white and gold wallpaper and matching vinyl
tile, volcanic rock pillars, U-shaped kitchens, and Early American
styling."
An ad in the 1964 Parade of Homes magazine reads, "Your
chance to build or buy a new home at the best bargain price comes
only
once, perhaps
twice, in your entire lifetime. The last such opportunity was in the
early 1940's, when quality homes were sold for $5,000...one-third
to one-fourth
of their present value! ...the $16,000 home you buy today will be worth
an estimated $25,000 by 1978! Would the homebuyers of 1964 have ever
believed the home prices, square footage averages, and the level
of amenities that
the marketplace now accepts as standard in 2003?

The home built by J.B. Sandlin for the 1964 Parade of
Homes, hosted by the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association
featured all the latest for the time—Colonial styling, an entry
way with white
and gold wallpaper and all vinyl tile, six inches of insulation
in the attic, and full batts in the walls.

| J.B.
Sandlin established principles of value, integrity and quality that
built the foundation for a homebuilding company that would grow and
prosper for future generations. Experience, willingness to adapt
to changes, and foresight have led the Sandlins through four decades
and positioned them to grow beyond their highest expectations as
they enter their fifth. Today, the new generation of Sandlins—Terry,
Mike and Scott and their brother-in-law Matt Speight each separately
manage their own building opportunities with Sandlin Custom Homes
and rotate responsibility for each new development they bring on.
However, business policies and strategic plans are made as a team.
Company bylaws dictate that three out of the four must agree on an
idea before it passes. Terry handles the operational issues, legalities
and company structure. Mike enjoys his focus on land purchasing and
development. Scott and Matt are also involved in developing and are
experts at studying trends and analyzing Design and affordability issues.
While each brings to the table their own unique talents and vision,
all support the family traditions and company spirit that are cornerstone
of Sandlin Custom homes. |
